Spring is just around the corner, and we are all ready to spend time in nature and find some new adventures. Here in Michigan, water is a way of life, we are quite literally surrounded, smack dab in the middle of our most precious resource, the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes holds 90% of the Unites States fresh water supply. Zoom out, a little further… the Great Lakes is 10% of the planets fresh water! It's up to us to keep our lakes healthy of us and future generations.
The region is home to more than 3,500 species of plants and animals, many only found in great lakes region. The Great Lakes provide drinking water to more than 40 million people. In the face of threats from pollution, industry, invasive species, and climate change, we need to show up for our Great Lakes.
Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline which runs through the Mackinac Straights was built in 1953 with a lifespan of 50 years.
